18 December 2024

On 3 December 2024, Enterprise Singapore issued a press release noting the outcomes of the 18th Singapore-Jiangsu Cooperation Council (“SJCC”) which include the inking of 21 agreements spanning areas such as sustainability, education, digitalisation, and healthcare.

Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Finance and National Development, co-chaired the SJCC meeting with Xu Kunlin, Governor of Jiangsu Province. Minister Indranee noted the enduring partnership between Singapore and Jiangsu and the mutual benefits it continues to yield. Singapore and Jiangsu share a longstanding and progressive bilateral relationship, underpinned by the SJCC platform. Despite global headwinds, both sides have continued to work closely in capturing growth opportunities in emerging sectors such as low carbon development and sustainability.

Minister Indranee also noted that the SJCC, together with Suzhou Industrial Park (“SIP”) and Singapore-Nanjing Eco Hi-Tech Island (“SNEHTI”) projects, have built up a strong business environment and supporting ecosystems in bringing forth new opportunities in key industries. They also serve as landing pads for Singapore companies to access East China and beyond.

The press release notes that Singapore and Jiangsu continue to deepen partnerships in sectors of common interests such as green initiatives and innovation. Specifically, Singapore and Jiangsu share common goals in reducing carbon footprints and developing sustainable economies. Companies from both sides are able to explore increased cooperation in the green economy while benefiting from each other’s experiences to co-develop sustainable solutions. Singapore companies in the green economy have also been deepening their presence in Jiangsu.

Beyond Singapore companies exploring opportunities in Jiangsu, Jiangsu companies also continue to show interest in exploring growth opportunities in South-east Asia, using Singapore as a launchpad.
