On 7 November 2024, Enterprise Singapore (“EnterpriseSG”), Singapore Economic Development Board (“EDB”), and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (“NTU”) jointly launched the Carbon Markets Academy of Singapore (“Academy”). Singapore’s first academy to help companies build capabilities and capture carbon market opportunities will train and upskill 300 professionals by 2027 to support the growth of Singapore’s carbon services and trading sector. The Academy’s first programme, the Executive Certificate in Carbon Markets, is open for enrolment and its first intake commences in January 2025. There will be more advanced training courses and curriculum for professionals to develop deeper specialisation in areas such as carbon credit project development and carbon financing being rolled out progressively.

The Academy will collaborate with EnterpriseSG, EDB, various research centres and institutes within NTU, and industry partners to develop Continuing Education and Training and postgraduate programmes, aimed at equipping professionals with capabilities for new and emerging roles in carbon markets.

EnterpriseSG and EDB will maintain close collaboration with NTU to ensure the Academy's programmes effectively address demand gaps in the carbon services and trading sector. Additionally, the agencies will contribute industry expertise and business networks to support the Academy's research and outreach efforts.

In addition to building a strong talent pipeline, the Academy will act as a thought leadership platform, fostering the exchange of insights among academics, industry practitioners, and policymakers in the region. For example, it will collaborate with industry partners to develop Asia-focused research and real-world case studies. These insights and lessons, integrated into the Academy’s curriculum, can also guide carbon management strategies for governments and businesses in the region.
