New provisions on segregation, treatment, and reporting requirements relating to food waste come into force

On 8 March 2024, a new Part 5 of the Resource Sustainability Act 2019 (“RSA”) on food waste came into force. The new Part 5 provides for the segregation and treatment of food waste generated in prescribed buildings and reporting requirements relating to the food waste so treated.
The following pieces of related subsidiary legislation have also been issued:
- Resource Sustainability (Amendment) Act 2023 (Commencement) Notification 2024
- Resource Sustainability (Food Waste Segregation, Treatment and Reporting) Regulations 2024 which came into operation on 8 March 2024
- Resource Sustainability (Exemptions from Part 5) Order 2024 which came into operation on 8 March 2024
