Forging Economic Ties
With the withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (“TPP”) by the United States, the prevailing view is that the TPP cannot come into effect in its current form without the United States. Minister for Trade and Industry, Lim Hng Kiang, had stated in Parliament that the impact to Singapore is not likely to be very significant in view of the existing bilateral free trade agreements that Singapore has with the United States and the other TPP countries (except Canada and Mexico).
The attention is now focused on pursuing other forms of economic cooperation initiatives to create opportunities for Singapore companies to collaborate and grow. In this article, we set out key information on some of these initiatives.
