SIAC launches 7th edition SIAC Rules
The 7th edition of the Arbitration Rules of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (“SIAC Rules 2025”) came into force on 1 January 2025.
The SIAC Rules 2025 introduce new procedures and enhancements to consistently ensure fair proceedings, efficiency in the conduct of the arbitration proportionate to the amount and complexity of issues in dispute, and enforceability of any award. Key highlights include:
- introduction of new procedures such as the Streamlined Procedure, Preliminary Determination, and Coordinated Proceedings;
- expansion of the cases eligible for the Expedited Procedure;
- enhancements to the Emergency Arbitrator procedure, including the possibility of protective preliminary order applications;
- updated appointment provisions and codification of the power of tribunals to appoint tribunal secretaries in SIAC arbitrations;
- incorporation of SIAC Gateway, SIAC’s online case management system;
- provisions encouraging parties to consider mediation;
- provisions in relation to third-party funding arrangements;
- provisions encouraging tribunals to consult with parties on adopting environmentally conscious arbitrations; and
- mechanisms to enhance and promote the overall integrity and efficiency of arbitration proceedings.
SIAC’s Revised Schedule of Fees has also come into force on 1 January 2025 and takes into account SIAC’s expanded administration services and the increasing quantum and complexity of SIAC’s caseload. The revisions include a 50% discount on the administration fees and arbitrator fees for low value disputes conducted under the new Streamlined Procedure.
SIAC previously conducted a public consultation on a draft version of the SIAC Rules 2025. Details on the consultation are set out in our article “Public consultation on draft 7th Edition of SIAC Rules”.
