In response to the developing Covid-19 pandemic, Singapore has implemented stricter control measures and a “circuit breaker”. Full and/or semi lockdowns are already in place in many countries. About half the world’s population is expected to be subject to some form of movement control. The insurance sector, which plays a crucial role in times of economic volatility, has come into the spotlight as the underwriter of these exposures.

This article explores business interruption, event cancellation and business deal abortion scenarios and examines issues related to coverage and quantification of losses arising from these lockdown measures.
