Singapore Government announces advertising ban and mandatory labelling for highly sweetened beverages
On 10 October 2019, Mr Edwin Tong, the Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Health (“MOH”) announced that the Singapore Government plans to introduce mandatory nutrition labels for less healthy pre-packaged sugar sweetened beverages (“SSBs”), as well as a total ban on advertising for the least healthy SSBs on local mass media channels. This move follows an eight-week public consultation conducted by the MOH and the Health Promotion Board in December 2018 on possible measures to reduce Singaporeans’ sugar intake from SSBs.
This infographic provides a summary of the key findings from the public consultation and a snapshot of the measures announced.
