Cheryl is a Partner in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Department.
She is a commercial litigator who has represented clients before all levels of the Singapore courts and arbitral tribunals in a wide range of matters including shareholder and investment disputes, professional liability claims, defamation, criminal prosecutions and employment disputes.
She has particular expertise in white collar and investigations, employment, as well as regulatory and compliance matters. She regularly advises public and private companies, financial institutions and high net worth individuals on contentious issues such as fraud, internal investigations, employee misconduct, anti-money laundering, sanctions, insider trading and corruption. She also advises clients on non-contentious matters ranging from drafting employment contracts and policies to conducting compliance trainings.
Cheryl graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Laws in 2016 and was awarded the Justice A V Winslow Prize for Banking Law. She was also awarded four distinctions, including best student in Criminal Litigation Practice, and was the top student in Part B of the Singapore Bar Examinations.
In 2021, she was appointed and appeared before the High Court in Pua Om Tee v Public Prosecutor [2022] SGHC 116 as Amicus Curiae where she assisted the Court in developing a sentencing framework for an offence under the Goods and Services Tax Act.
Cheryl is a regular volunteer with the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme and has been appointed as a member of the Criminal Legal Assistance Steering Committee for a two-year term (2024-2026).
Work Highlights
- Acted for various organisations in the conduct of internal investigations, including advising SPH Media’s Audit and Risk Committee in the internal review and investigation into the alleged overstatement of circulation data.
- Acted for SembCorp in interpleader proceedings and related recovery claims arising from the Hin Leong Trading collapse.
- Advised and acted for financial institutions, multinational companies and the C-suites of listed companies in relation to investigations by authorities under various laws, including the Securities and Futures Act, Penal Code, Official Secrets Act, Prevention of Corruption Act and the Companies Act.
- Successfully defended a public listed company and its subsidiary against minority oppression and conspiracy proceedings before the Singapore High Court.
