Chong Ying’s area of expertise encompasses mergers and acquisitions (involving private equity, trade sales and competitive bids), local and cross border joint ventures, corporate restructuring, schemes of transfers of insurance business and schemes of arrangement and reconstruction.
She has extensive experience acting for both buyers and sellers in mergers and acquisitions across various industries including the insurance industry and has been involved in many of the schemes of transfers of insurance business.
She also has in-depth experience advising on and negotiating joint venture agreements and frequently acts for management in their reinvestment arrangements in management buyouts.
In addition, she regularly provides restructuring and general corporate law advice to companies and co-operative societies across a broad spectrum of industries.
Chong Ying joined the Firm in 2002 after she was called to the Singapore Bar and has been a Partner since 2008.
Work Highlights
- Acted for Guthrie and Lee Kim Tah Holdings on the S$2.2 billion divestment of Jurong Point mall to Mercatus Co-operative.
- Acted for Singapore Press Holdings in its joint venture with Kajima Development and their S$1.132 billion successful tender for a 99-year leasehold mixed commercial and residential site at Upper Serangoon Road by the Housing and Development Board.
- Acted for Prudential Singapore in its acquisition of UOB Life Assurance for a consideration of approximately S$428 million, the setting up of bancassurance arrangements with United Overseas Bank and its subsidiaries in Thailand and Indonesia, and the subsequent integration of the insurance business of UOB Life Assurance with that of Prudential Assurance Company Singapore.
