On 24 October 2024, the Myanmar Department of Trade issued Export and Import Newsletter 5 of 2024 (“Newsletter”) informing exporters and importers that the Tradenet 2.0 system and the electronic taxpayer registration system are now interconnected. TradeNet 2.0 is an online platform developed by the Myanmar Ministry of Commerce to streamline and digitise the country’s trade processes. Launched on 1 November 2020, it enables traders to apply for export and import licenses, registration certificates, and other trade-related documents electronically, eliminating the need for physical submissions.

The Newsletter states that the two systems being connected will result in trade becoming more convenient for businesses.

From 1 November 2024, new exporter/importer registration certificates could only be applied for with prior tax registration and that the same would be the case for renewal applications starting from 1 January 2025. A taxpayer registration certificate can be applied for on the Internal Revenue Department’s taxpayer system (https://eregistration.ird.gov.mm).
