Myanmar Department of Trade stipulates import of pharmaceuticals to be allowed only with proof of export earnings

On 28 August 2024, the Myanmar Department of Trade issued a letter to the Myanmar Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Manufacturer Association informing that from 1 September 2024 import licences for pharmaceuticals can only be granted after export earnings are submitted. The letter also informs that applications for such licences currently in the system will be deleted, including 716 pending applications with a value of US$103 million. A new import licence application for pharmaceuticals must be submitted after obtaining approval from the Foreign Exchange Supervisory Committee.
