Our Technology & Corporate Intellectual Property Practice offers a unique blend of transaction expertise and deep knowledge of intellectual property and technology-related laws. The team comprises specialist lawyers who have extensive experience in a wide spectrum of technology and intellectual property-related transactions as well as substantial experience in advising on complex matters.
- Transaction-focused practice: We have a very strong focus on working with our clients to put together commercial transactions across diverse workstreams, whether on deals with technology and intellectual property as the main subject matter or advising alongside our Corporate M&A colleagues and our other practices within the Firm as well as foreign legal practitioners.
- Deep knowledge and expertise of intellectual property laws and technology-related laws: Our active involvement in advising large industry players on cutting-edge developments such as AI and emerging technologies means that we are at the forefront of today’s technology landscape and knowledge economy. We provide practical and highly tailored advice on the diverse range of legal issues which can impact our clients’ roll-out of their new products / technologies, to assist our clients in implementing measures to manage risks in a practical manner.

Our experience in some of these areas include:
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning: The technology space is in a state of perpetual evolution and the Practice is well-placed to navigate this dynamic environment. We have worked closely with various clients on their procurement, commercialisation and/or deployment of various artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies, whether as front-end consumer facing products and services or as back-end internal tools. We draw on our expertise in various areas such as intellectual property, data protection and cybersecurity, licensing to assist clients in navigating the various of legal and commercial issues that arise when they seek deploy such technologies in innovative and ‘first-of-its-kind’ type use cases across their businesses.
- Complex contracting: We are acutely aware that technology and intellectual property form an integral part of modern businesses. We are involved in providing specialised advice, negotiating and drafting contracts in and around M&A transactions, whether on deals with technology and intellectual property as the main subject matter or advising alongside our Corporate M&A colleagues on implementation, integration and transition matters (e.g. transitional services, business process outsourcing, downstream intellectual property licensing), as well as foreign M&A practitioners. We also work closely with our other practices within the Firm to provide cross-disciplinary advice on complex, cutting-edge developments.
- Platforms: Online platforms typically involve a mesh of contracts to manage the different aspects of the platform ecosystem, such as catering to different levels of platform participants and addressing issues arising from electronic transactions. We have advised extensively on the structuring and drafting of the contracts among ecosystem participants, as well as operators and service providers during the setting-up phase, and the further development of such contracts during the scaling and expansion phase and we offer bespoke solutions to ensure that the structure and contracts can work in tandem with the business and operational processes and address the requirements and risks unique to platform in question.
